What is Lilith (Black Moon)? Your chart's taboo and power point
Black Moon Lilith shows suppressed desire, the power you feel ashamed of, and where you censor yourself. How to read it by sign and house.

Lilith is not a planet but a mathematical point: the far focus of the Moon's elliptical orbit around the Earth, which is why it is called the Black Moon. Because it isn't a physical body, it reads less as concrete events and more as an inner theme: suppressed desire, the part of you that wasn't welcomed, the place where you censor yourself, and the power hidden exactly there.
The myth behind it
In myth Lilith refuses to submit and leaves paradise. Translated into a chart, that story becomes one theme: the piece of yourself you cut off in order to fit in. Lilith is the point that says 'here I learned to make myself smaller.' There is no moral judgement in the reading, only a map of where authenticity is hard.
Which Lilith should you use?
- Mean Lilith: the most commonly used, smoothly calculated position.
- True (osculating) Lilith: moves erratically, shows short-term sensitivity.
- Asteroid Lilith (1181): a separate body with a different theme, not to be confused with the Black Moon.
- Dark Moon Lilith: rarely used and based on a contested assumption.
Mean Lilith is enough to start. Read it by sign, by house and by its aspects to the personal planets.
Lilith by sign: the suppressed theme
- Aries: anger and the right to want; fear of looking selfish.
- Taurus: pleasure, money, owning your body; the question of worth.
- Gemini: the unsaid sentence; silenced ideas and curiosity.
- Cancer: hiding your own needs while caring for others.
- Leo: the wish to be seen and the shame attached to it.
- Virgo: perfection pressure, rigidity about body and order.
- Libra: cancelling yourself for the sake of harmony.
- Scorpio: intensity, jealousy, power and privacy.
- Sagittarius: belief and freedom; refusing the mould.
- Capricorn: authority and ambition; the right to succeed.
- Aquarius: belonging and difference; the wound of exclusion.
- Pisces: boundaries, the victim role, the urge to become invisible.
Lilith by house
The house shows where the theme surfaces. In the 1st it creates a taboo around your appearance and presence; the person either draws heavy attention or hides. In the 7th, power balance in relationships becomes the topic. In the 10th, the relationship with authority and career is charged. In the 12th the theme stays unconscious and speaks through dreams and escapes. In the 8th, sexuality, shared resources and control come forward.
Lilith aspects
- Lilith - Sun: a suppressed face of identity, tests with authority.
- Lilith - Moon: emotional shame, suppression inherited from family.
- Lilith - Venus: desire and worth; attraction and provocation in love.
- Lilith - Mars: anger and sexuality; either explosion or total suppression.
- Lilith - Saturn: self-censorship and a harsh inner critic.
- Lilith - Pluto: transformation and power struggles, a very intense axis.
Lilith isn't evil; it's the address of the part you cut off in order to fit in.
Using Lilith well
- Turn Lilith's sign into a need: finish the sentence 'I want ...'.
- Express that need as a boundary rather than as shame.
- Use it by choice, not by provocation; pressured Lilith produces sabotage.
- Open a creative channel: writing, stage, sport and design carry this energy well.
